Hollywood meets
Bollywood to look back at one of the biggest chemical disasters in world
history which happened in the heart of India. Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain, produced by Sahara Movie Studios and Rising Star Entertainment
and starring such big names from there - Martin Sheen and Kal Penn - and here -
Rajpal Yadav and Tannishtha Chatterjee - turns the Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984
into an edge-of-the-seat social thriller.
It will be thirty years
this December but no film has ever been made on the massive toxic gas leak from
Union Carbide Corporation's chemical plant in Bhopal that devastating night. As
many as 3,800 people died instantly and more than half a million people were
exposed to the gas. In the subsequent decades 15,000 to 20,000 premature deaths
have happened due to the aftereffects of the gas leak.
In the format which will
not only be informative but highly entertaining for audiences all over the
world, Bhopal: A Prayer for
Rain digs deep into what went
into the infamous gas leak. The film revolves around a poor man named Dilip,
played by Rajpal Yadav, who lands himself a job at the Union Carbide plant in
Bhopal and through him we get to see what led to the devastating tragedy.
Says Seemanto Roy,
Executive Director of Sahara Movie Studios: "The Bhopal gas tragedy is a
part of our history that every Indian should be aware of. Through this movie we
want to carry the message that this tragedy was an avoidable one. It is a story
of real people and real sufferings. We are sure that 'Bhopal' will connect a
cord with everyone and will force them to think and at the same time empathise
with the victims and sufferers. This is our tribute to them."
Bhopal: A Prayer for
Rain, produced
by Sahara Movie Studios and Rising Star Entertainment will release in India and
abroad on 5th Dec, 2014.
